Dragonisi Islet

Will take your breath away...!

Have you ever heard that in Mykonos lies to the east coast
a tiny, rocky secluded islet with wild natural beauty and sparkling blue waters?

That islet is Dragonisi (meaning the Dragon Islet) or else Tragonisi (meaning Billy Goat Islet), an uninhabited land of approximately 1.2 square kilometers and 3 miles away from Mykonos, reachable only by boat and protected under the Natura 2000 network due to its ecological recognition.

In ancient times, it was a sacred site for the god of Apollo and later a pirate hideout and during the World War II it became a military outpost. Today, there is a small, picturesque chapel named the “Panagia Church” dedicated to Virgin Maria, where once a year a cherished celebration is held, with only males allowed to participate, followed by a traditional feast with local delicacies and music.

Despite its modest size, it boasts a remarkable diversity of natural features including Impressive cliffs and rock formations, magnetizing crystal blue turquoise waters, underwater small caves and tunnels/chambers, and exclusive habitat of protected species of birds and marine life like yellow sea anemones, dolphins, sea turtles and monk seals - but not seen in all periods – which make the scenery unprecedented and breathtaking for anyone visiting this pristine landscape of Dragonisi.

Dragonisi is an unparalleled raw beauty with rugged coastline and no beaches and is a protected Natura shelter for the Monachus-Monachus monk seal. In very rare cases when no wind blows, sea caves might also be visited. Discover more on a Sailing Yacht Escape to the Hidden Dragonisi Islet.

An untouched aquatic heaven for swimming and diving enthusiasts and for nature lovers looking to explore the underwater wonders, the remote and mystical Dragonisi offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Mykonos.
